Story of a Couple and their Tattoo

This was during my days in Bangalore as a tattoo artist. I got a call from a client to get a tattoo done. I agreed to meet at a cafe and discuss the design. I reached the place, and there was a cute-looking couple, probably in their mid-20s. We exchanged pleasantries, and they told me how the guy wanted a tattoo that included both his and his girlfriend's names — fair enough. I showed them some designs and suggested they get an ambigram with both their names.

The guy said, "My parents don't know about her yet, so let my name be visible, and let her name be embedded in a way that isn't too obvious." I said okay. But I saw a change in his girlfriend's face. She said, "No, I don't care how you put your name — I want mine to look really nice." Remember, she wasn't even getting a tattoo. Only he was.

The argument between them got heated, and she stormed out of the cafe, hopped into a rickshaw, and left. The guy ran after her, took another rickshaw, and left too.

I sat there wondering what on earth I should do. I ended up paying the bill and went home, disappointed.

Cut to two weeks later — the guy called me again. He said he wanted to get the tattoo. I was reluctant and told him I'd come only if the design was ready and he was sure about what he wanted. He said the design was ready and invited me over to his house.

I went, and I was in for a shock. He told me he'd met the girl at a party — a week before they came to me to get the tattoo done. I said, "What the hell is wrong with you? You decided to get her name tattooed a week after meeting her?"

Anyway, they'd since broken up over the whole tattoo fight, and now he wanted an ambigram that read "Forgive" on one side and "Forget" on the other.

Sigh!
